InFocus 4805: Increasing Your Home Entertainment Enjoyment
with the Screenplay 4805
InFocus is beefing up its home theater / home entertainment projector line with the InFocus 4805. The 4805 is
neither compact nor lightweight. It measures 4.2 x 9.8 x 12.9 (HWD) and weighs in at 7.8 pounds. The design isn’t
stellar, but it does get the job done. You get the usual controls on top of the projector. At the back of
the 4805 are the connectivity ports. These include a composite input, S-Video, a DVI port that is HDCP
compliant, and a set of component inputs. However, the DVI port is not the more common DVI port. In order to use
it, you would need to look for an adaptor. While you probably won’t be using them for home entertainment, it is
still worth noting that the 4805 has audio inputs and an on-board 2.5-watt mono amplifier.
Part of the 4805 package is a remote control. The layout is quite simple and has the right amount of buttons.
However, the remote only has an UP and DOWN button. The places for the left and right were taken by the SELECT and
MENU buttons. It would take getting used to if you are familiar with remote controls that can move left or right on
the menu. The remote control also features contrast and brightness buttons, although you’d find less use for this
once you’ve calibrated your system. The menu system is logically arranged, and you’d be able to find the much
needed options nearer to the top of the menu system tree. Unlike other projectors, the 4805 has an option for
Advanced Menu. Under this menu, you can configure settings for Color Control as well as Color Temperature.
The Infocus 4805 is shipped with long focal length lens. This lens has a manual zoom as well as focus with
around 1.2x range of zoom. This means that if you want to project an image of about 100 inches diagonal, the
projector must be placed at a distance of 13 to 15 feet. The ANSI rating for the 4805 is quite low, scoring only
750. However, it really shines when it comes to contrast. The 4805 has an outstanding rating of 2000:1 in terms of
contrast. Due to its high score, the shadows and black level that is produced by the 4805 is stunning.
One minor flaw with the 4805 is the fan noise. While on low power, the fan noise is hardly disturbing. However,
if you decide to use high lamp, the noise can definitely be a factor especially for a home theater. If noise isn’t
much of a problem for you, the InFocus 4805 is a suitable home entertainment projector.
