InFocus LP350: Improving the Projector Technology via DLP
with the LP350
The world of projectors just got even better with the introduction of the new technology called Digital Light
Processing or DLP. DLP provides colorful and clear images which can be projected even in brightly lit rooms. The
InFocus LP350 is one of the projectors that were able to benefit from this new technology.
The LP350 and its predecessor, the LP340 is very similar in almost all aspects. However, while the LP340 has a
max resolution of only 800 x 600, the LP350 offers up to 1024 x 768. The LP350 measures 10.9 inches x 11.2 inches x
3.9 inches and weighs a hefty 6.7 pounds. While not light enough for constant travel, the LP350 is small and light
enough to move around from room to room. In case you do need to take the LP350 along for a presentation, the
included carrying case makes transportation a whole lot easier. It comes in a minimalist yet dull slate gray
casing. Instead of the usual VGA connector, the LP350 opted for the digital DVI connector. The DVI connector
provides better image quality without the jitters that accompanies older models. However, you need to have the
proper port in your notebook or desktop. In case you don’t you still have the option to use S-Video, composite
video, sound or the USB port instead. The USB port doubles as a remote mouse as well.
The LP350 also features an on-screen menu. The OSM can be accessed via the remote control. With it, you can
adjust the sound, image quality, keystone to suit your needs. You can also use the OSM to manually select the video
standard. The LP350 can produce an image that is about 6-feet wide from 12 feet away. The LP350 has a lens-mounted
zoom that you can adjust in order to make the image fit your screen.
Thanks to the DLP technology and an ANSI rating of 1300 lumens, the image projected by the LP350 is exceptional.
Colors are bright and vivid, the edges doesn’t exhibit blurring and stay sharp instead. Corners are also well
illuminated. When using fluorescent lighting, the pictures are easily seen, though you might have problems dealing
with text. The LP350 scored an unexceptional but still good 400:1 contrast ratio. On the other hand, because it is
powered by DLP technology, color accuracy is still an issue – most specifically when it comes to yellows and the
reds. Nonetheless, the digital signal produced by DVI, coupled with the DLP technology make the InFocus LP350 an
excellent improvement in the field of projectors.
